हांसी. स्थानीय कोर्ट ने स्वामी अग्निवेश के खिलाफ धार्मिक भावनाएं भड़काने के आरोप में मामला दर्ज करने के आदेश दिए हैं। न्यायिक दंडाधिकारी अश्वनी कुमार महता की अदालत ने सोमवार को समाजसेवी प्रवीन तायल की ओर से डाली गई पीआईएल पर सुनवाई करते हुए ये आदेश दिए। लेकिन अभी तक स्वामी अग्निवेश का सर काटकर लाने वाले को १० लाक का इनाम दिए जाने की घोषणा करने वाले संगठन के खिलाफ कोई कार्रवाई नहीं की गई है।
प्रवीन तायल ने सोमवार को याचिका में आरोप लगाया था कि स्वामी अग्निवेश ने अलगाववादियों के सुर में सुर मिलाया है और श्रीनगर में बयान जारी कर अमरनाथ यात्रा को धर्म के नाम पर पाखंड करार दिया। तायल ने कहा कि इससे श्रद्धालुओं की धार्मिक भावनाओं को ठेस पहुंची है और स्वामी अग्निवेश ने अमरनाथ गुफा पर शिवलिंग पिघलने की प्रक्रिया को ग्लोबल वार्मिग से जोड़ा है जो कि दुर्भाग्यपूर्ण है।
तायल की ओर से दायर याचिका की पैरवी करते हुए सीनियर एडवोकेट प्रवीन मित्तल ने कोर्ट से कहा कि ऐसे में स्वामी अग्निवेश के खिलाफ भारतीय दंड संहिता की धारा 295 व 295ए के तहत मामला दर्ज किया जाना चाहिए। कोर्ट ने मामले की सुनवाई करते हुए स्वामी अग्निवेश के खिलाफ मामला दर्ज करने के आदेश दे दिए।
हाल ही में हिंदू संगठन अखिल भारतीय हिंदू महासभा की उत्तर प्रदेश इकाई ने समाजिक कार्यकर्ता स्वामी अग्निवेश के सर 10 लाख का इनाम रखा। अग्निवेश ने हाल ही में अमरनाथ यात्रा को लेकर को तीखी टिप्पणी की थी। अखिल भारतीय हिंदू महासभा के प्रदेश अध्यक्ष कमलेश तिवारी ने कहा है कि अग्निवेश ने अमरनाथ यात्रा पर टिप्पणी करके विभाजनकारी तत्वों को बढ़ावा दिया है। उन्होंने कहा कि अन्ना हजारे को ऐसे लोगों से दूर रहने की जरूरत है। उन्होंने अग्निवेश का सिर काटकर लाने वाले को १० लाख रुपए का इनाम देने की भी घोषणा की। लेकिन प्रशासन ने अभी तक इस तरह की घोषणा करने वाले नेताओं के खिलाफ कोई कार्रवाई नहीं की है।

Faculty of IITs, IIMs 'not world class': Jairam Ramesh

The IITs and IIMs are excellent because of the quality of students not because of quality of research or faculty, " said Jairam Ramesh.

 DELHI: Environment minister Jairam Ramesh, an IIT alumni himself, kicked up a controversy claiming the faculty of the premier IITs and IIMs are 'not world class' but are 'excellent' because of the quality of students.

"There is hardly any worthwhile research from our IITs. The faculty in the IIT is not world class. It is the students in IITs who are world class. So the IITs ( Indian Institute of Technology) and IIMs (Indian Institute of Management) are excellent because of the quality of students not because of quality of research or faculty," Ramesh told reporters on the sidelines of a function here.

The outspoken minister is an alumni of IIT Mumbai from where he obtained his BTech degree in mechanical engineering in 1975.

On his ministry's decision to have a joint venture with Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) to set up a National Centre for Marine Biodiversity in Jamnagar, he said the decision was taken as a world class research centre cannot be built in a "governmental set up" and can never attract young people.

Asked whether there was any conflict of interest in collaborating with Reliance, the minister said, "Life is one large conflict of interest."

"We cannot build a world class research centre in a governmental set up. The governmental set up can never attract young people. Never. Let us understand our experience in the last 60 years. Government research institutions can never attract young talent.

"So we want to think differently. We have to think differently, how we are going to organise our research institutions. And this is one way of building PPP," Ramesh said.

"So I have been to Jamnagar and we are in a PPP mode. We are having a joint venture with Reliance to set up a world class national centre for marine biodiversity," he said.

Jamnagar is also the site for India's first marine national park, the minister said.

This would be a new centre that would focus exclusively on the conservation of our marine biodiversity, Ramesh added.

The FIR, filed on Tuesday at the Lapung Police Station, accuses assistant post master Binod Jaiswal, SBI’s accountant Anil Kumar Sinha, and five officials of the Block Development Office — programme officer Samir Sagar, Rojgar Sevak Sanjay Oraon, Panchayat Sevak Mansa Kachhap, junior engineer Bindeshwar Singh and assistant engineer Rahul Kumar — of conspiring to corner the funds. The “beneficiaries” in the name of whom the funds were withdrawn either did not exist or did not receive any money.

The police stumbled upon the case after they arrested a wanted criminal, Bhola Sahu, on November 11 and recovered from him several “incriminating” documents, including 50 passbooks of SBI’s Lapung branch, 150 passbooks of the Lapung post-office, 250 job cards of workers and a dozen registers/muster rolls.“All of them were hand in glove. They conceived the NREGA schemes, prepared detailed project reports, maintained job cards and muster rolls and encashed the funds from the bank and post-office,” said Ranchi SSP Praveen Singh.

Sahu told the police that Jaiswal, Sinha, Sagar, Oraon, Kachhap, Singh and Kumar were all involved in the scam. Two other accused, Apung BDO Moni Kumari and SBI’s Lapung branch manger Ranu Kumar, are reported to be absconding.

Inspector B L Mishra, who is investigating the case, said the accused prepared more than 50 schemes envisaging either construction of roads or digging of ponds in villages falling under the Lapung block and withdrew funds under the MNREGA over one year.

Orissa NREGA scam: Supreme Court pulls up Centre

New Delhi:  The Supreme Court on Monday made it clear that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has to probe into the alleged misappropriation of the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA) funds in Orissa. 

The Centre had earlier told the Supreme Court that it is considering CBI probe into the issue but apparently had done little to address the Court's concern in last three months.

"We make it clear we are giving four weeks' time to decide. We make it clear if Centre doesn't decide we will step in", the Court said.

The court was hearing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed in 2007 by an NGO Centre for Environment and Food Security alleging large-scale corruption in the implementation of the NREGA scheme. The petition had pointed out that while some states in the north-eastern and Andhra Pradesh have done a good job in implementing the rural employment scheme, the others are far behind.

On December 16 last year, while hearing the PIL, the Court had indicted both the Union and the state governments for their failure in properly executing the rural job guarantee scheme and had asked them to explain as to why a CBI probe into the fund embezzlement should not be ordered.

"We are constrained to observe that the Union of India as well as the State of Orissa, prima facie, have failed to effectively and purposefully implement the provisions of the Act," the bench had observed.

"This has resulted in the deprivation of the entitled class from getting employment and receiving the allowances due to them in terms of the statutory guarantees available to them under the Act," it had said.

MUMBAI: Taslima Nasreen, the controversial writer of Bangladeshi origin, has advised the cricketing world's god, Sachin Tendulkar, not to pray for Sathya Sai Baba, who passed away on Sunday morning. Sunday, April 24, was Tendulkar's birthday, but the cricketer, who is an ardent devotee of Sai Baba, had said on Saturday that he was cancelling his birthday celebrations and praying for Baba.

Nasreen, who is known more for the controversies chasing her than her literary skills, has been retweeting comments poking fun at Sai Baba. She retweeted a comment: "why shud somebody be sad abt his death. he was 86, shud b allowed to die. i was so dissappointd with sachin praying. crazy!"Earlier in the day, Nasreen tweeted a cheeky remark: "Satya Saibaba died. He said he would die in 2022. But he died too early."

"Hope no one will try to conceal small pellets of ashes at the base of their fingers. Then use their fists to powder the pellets and produce the flow of ash," went her next tweet.

Many of the retweets were attacks on Sai Baba, calling him a cheat and trick master. There were some that poked fun at godmen in general. Some of the comments Taslima retweeted were:

Washington: Newly released videos show Osama bin Laden watching himself on television and rehearsing for terrorist videos, revealing that even from the walled confines of his Pakistani hideout, he remained a media maestro who was eager to craft his own image for the cameras.The videos, released by US intelligence officials on Saturday, were offered as further proof that Navy SEALs killed the world's most wanted terrorist this week. But they also served to show bin Laden as vain, someone obsessed with his portrayal by the world's media.

One of the movies shows bin Laden, his unkempt beard streaked in gray, sitting on the floor, wrapped in a brown blanket and holding a remote control. He flipped back and forth between what appears to be live news coverage of himself. Masudur Rahman, who is also an adjunct instructor of Arabic at the University of Memphis, said by phone from the terminal at Memphis International Airport that he and another imam had already been allowed to board their Delta Connection flight to Charlotte, North Carolina before they were asked to get off the plane.

Transportation Security Administration spokesman Jon Allen in Atlanta confirmed the incident and said it was not initiated by that agency.

A Delta Air Lines spokeswoman said the flight was operated by Atlantic Southeast Airlines, which is also based in Atlanta.

"We take security and safety very seriously and the event is currently under investigation," Atlantic Southeast spokesman Jarek Beem said Friday evening.Both passengers are Memphis-area residents. Rahman said he was dressed in traditional Indian clothing and his traveling companion was dressed in Arab garb, including traditional headgear.

Rahman said he and Mohamed Zaghloul, of the Islamic Association of Greater Memphis, were cleared by security agents and boarded the plane for an 8:40 am. departure on Friday. The aircraft pulled away from the gate, but the pilot then announced the plane must return, Rahman said.
