Members of JNU unions hurt in fight

STAFF REPORTER | NEW DELHI
Yet another controversy struck Jawaharlal Nehru University on Sunday. This time, the controversy arose after a fight ensued between members of two student unions.
Members of All India Students Backward Forum (AISBF) and Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) got indulged in a fight on Saturday night on the issue of an allegedly anti-religious pamphlet circulating in the campus. ABVP members claimed that their religious sentiments were hurt by the content published in the pamphlet. Members of both the groups received injuries in the incident. Both the groups have lodged a complaint with the police in this regard.
On Sunday, AIBSF wrote a letter to the Proctor, Prof HB Bohidar, demanding an action against ABVP members. They alleged that ABVP members created a ruckus, taking offence over the content published in a religious pamphlet released by their forum. It was based on the article written by writer Prem Kumar Mani, which mentioned that Mahishasur, the beast who was killed by Goddess Durga, belonged to a lower cast and therefore, people from backward classes should not worship Goddess Durga. This pamphlet was termed anti-religious by the ABVP. As a result, ABVP members started tearing these letters from the campus walls.
